Ms. Binta and Her Father's Phenominal Idea
At the end of the movie, I was very surprised but also very let down. The movie led you to beleive that Bintas father's great idea was something huge because he continually had to talk to higher positioned people. They kept saying one after another that no one could grasp this idea and that its too complex for them to handle. So I thought that his great idea was something along the lines of helping his very poor community or designing some sort of invention in which to make life easier. However at the end of the movie we come to find out that his idea was to adopt a child. Now that to me doesnt seem that complex. It happens everyday in countries around the world. Also, it doesnt make much sense to bring another person into an already overpopulated poor area. I mean, they can barely take care of themselves, let alone a new child. So I dont beleive that its a good idea.Soda's father doesnt want her to go to school because he beleives that the womans place is at home and he doesnt want women to be equal or superior to men. I dont know anyone like soda's father. He is ridiculous. Soda wants to go to school to get an education and be someone. She wants the same opportunity as Binta and her mother supports her completely because she wants her daughter to be happy and become something.
If Binta's society embraces western ways of life, they could be better off in some ways yet worse off in others. For example, they could advance in technology and make life easier, but lose some of their traditions and ways of life. Some western people could learn from Binta's society by taking notice of how they treat one another. Binta's society never argues and they have parties in the street frequently. Now thats what I want to do. I want to party it up all night long in the streets by dancing with my community! That would be awesome! The educational system would help to establish national identity. This film is very eye opening because It makes me understand how lucky I am to live in such a great place. I dont have to worry about how I will eat from day to day, or if I can go to school. Most of us hate going to school but I think if we never had it, we'd want it.
